‘Libyan crude oil exports exceeded 485 million barrels last year’

Libyan crude oil exports hit 485.149 million barrels last year, the Libyan National Oil Office has said.

In a statement issued on its website on Wednesday, the office said it exported 379.508 million barrels, the rest being exported by its partners.

The statement said that the volume of local consumption was estimated for the same period at 52.668 million barrels.

Libya is Africa’s second oil exporter after Nigeria, but has the most important reserves on the continent.

Libya’s economy depends on oil exports for about 95% of its foreign revenue.

The ousted regime of Mouammar Kadhafi could not promote the tourism sector, which has huge potentials, including 200 kms of unpolluted beaches off the Mediterranean coast, the Sahara with nice oasis, a rich cultural heritage and dozens of cities and tourist sites that date back to the Roman and Islamic eras.
