Mali: 8th session of ECOWAS tax administration forum opens in Bamako

The tax administrations from the 15 ECOWAS member countries are taking part in the eighth session of the forum for West Africa’s tax administrations (FAFAO) that opened here Friday, sources close to the Malian ministry of Economy and Finances told PANA.

The session is being held under the theme “Tax in the telecommunications sector”.

Before the forum, the monitoring committee, made up of the managing directors of tax administrations from ECOWAS member states, met on Thursday to prepare grounds for Friday’s session.

In addition to the central theme, other issues, including the adoption of the FAFAO interior regulations, the state of payment of the subscription fees for the organization’s member states, are also being discussed.

The last FAFAO session met on 12-13 September in the Burkina Faso capital, Ouagadougou, on the theme “Information sharing for tax goals”.

Set up in September 2011, FAFAO is a platform which promotes mutual cooperation between tax administrations from ECOWAS member countries. It also improves the efficiency of their legislations and fights tax fraud.
