Tunisia: exports post 7.3% growth

Tunisian exports posted a growth of 7.3% during the 11 months in 2011 compared to the same period last year despite the difficult economic situation faced by Tunisia. The value of exports amounted to 22,767.8 MTD.

Exports of agricultural and food products came first with a growth of 39.8%, followed by electrical industries with 22.9% and more modestly textile, garment and leather with 6.4%. However, exports of the phosphates and derivatives sector fell by 36%.

As for imports, they increased 5.8% compared to 2010, reaching 30,596.0 MTD.

Imports of agricultural products and food staples posted a growth of 30.7%, followed by energy (24.6%) while imports of products of the phosphate and derivatives sector, and those of mechanical and electrical industries dropped by 4.5% and 3.3% due to the difficult situation of the phosphate sector.
