Mali and four UN agencies Tuesday signed funding agreements worth FCFA120 billion for several programmes in the country during the 2008-2012 period.
The ceremony was witnessed by Malian President Amadou Toumani Touré and the representatives of the agencies involved – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), The United Nations’ Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Population’s Fund (UNFPA).
The various programmes mainly cover the enhancement of a democratic rule, poverty elimination, strengthening of food security, education, maternal and child health, access to safe drinking water and AIDS control.
The agreements were signed by Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Moctar Ouane, and UNDP residing representative in Mali, Joseph Byll Catara.
