Nigeria: Govt. deploys explosive detectors in 15 airports

The Nigerian Federal Government has deployed hi-tech explosive screening equipment at 15 of the 22 airports in the country, the local PUNCH newspaper reported Wednesday, quoting the spokesperson for the aviation parastatal, Mr. Yakubu Dati.

Revealing this Tuesday, Dati said the remaining seven airports will get theirs shortly, according to the paper.

Dati said that between July 2011 and October 2013, the Federal Government procured and deployed hi-tech, three-in-one liquid, metal and explosive detection screening equipment in all Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria-controlled airports.

He explained that the deployment of the hi-tech security equipment was part of efforts by the government to raise the bar in airport safety and security, adding that the equipment had been fully installed at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja.
