Nigerian bank supports tree planting to reduce global warming

One of Nigeriaâ?s leading financial institutions, Acces s Bank Plc, is collaborating with other stakeholders to support the planting of 2,500 trees in three major cities in the country, as a way of mi tigating the effect of climate change on the environment under the ”Going Green; Beyond Wordsâ? campaign.

â?This commitment is an initiative we are excited about as we are pleased to jo in forces with the Nigerian public school system and Idea Builders Initiative to begin the erasure of our carbon footprint from our environment,” the bank said in a statement made available to PANA here Tuesday.

”The first stage of the project will see Access Bank support the planting of 2, 500 trees,â? it added.

According to the bank, ”Going Green; Beyond Words” encourages staff, customers , partner schools and local communities to take action and make one change that benefits the environment.

From this month to November, more than 200 Access Bank Plc staff and community v olunteers will plant more than 2,000 trees in strategic locations in Lagos and the South-eastern State of Abia. The tree planting event was flagg ed off in Abuja, the Nigerian capital city, 20 Oct.

The new trees is expected to improve the environment by helping to moderate the climate, improve air quality and support neighbourhood beautification.

The initiative will attract participants from the government, strategic communit y partners, pilot schools and the general public.
