President of the Republic meets with Prime Minister to discuss a number of draft laws and decrees

The progress of the government’s work over the past few days and the follow-up to a number of draft laws and decrees that will be discussed at the next Council of Ministers were the main topics of a meeting between President Kais Saied and Prime Minister Ahmed Hachani at Carthage Palace on Monday.

The President of the Republic said legal texts of different nature must be integrated into a coherent framework that breaks with the past.

He stressed that there will be no tolerance for any side that seeks to disrupt the functioning of the state’s public institutions or fails to fulfil its legal obligations, acording to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic.

Among the draft laws discussed was the draft revision of Article 96 of the Penal Code. The President of the Republic stressed that this draft must strike a balance between preserving public funds and not invoking the provisions of this article to disrupt the normal functioning of public institutions.

Article 96 of the Penal Code refers in particular to the offence of obtaining an undue advantage for oneself or for others, harming the administration or violating the regulations in force, which is punishable by 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine equal to the value of the advantage obtained.
