On September 26, commencing at 5:05 p.m. for approximately five minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, during his stay in New York for attending the United Nations General Assembly, held informal talks with H.E. Mr. Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, at the United Nations Headquarters. The overview of the talks is as follows.
1 Prime Minister Abe conveyed a decision to establish an office of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) in Ethiopia and requested assistance and cooperation for the early establishment of the office and the business operations following the establishment of the office. The establishment of the JETRO office was requested by Prime Minister Hailemariam when Prime Minister Abe visited Ethiopia in January last year.
2 Moreover, Prime Minister Abe stated that the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, which was agreed on thanks to the efforts of Prime Minister Hailemariam at the Third International Conference on Financing for Development in July this year, made a great contribution to the conclusion of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
3 Prime Minister Hailemariam welcomed the decision to establish a JETRO office in Ethiopia and expressed his hopes for the further development of the economic relationship between Japan and Ethiopia. In addition, Prime Minister Hailemariam expressed his gratitude for the “Kaizen” initiative promoted by Japan in Ethiopia and expressed his idea to continue to enhance the “Kaizen” movement in Ethiopia. Prime Minister Hailemariam added that “Kaizen,” a Japanese philosophy, will prevail in other African countries in the future.
4 In addition to the above, the two leaders confirmed their cooperation for the establishment of “World Tsunami Day” and cooperation in the international arena.
