Ramadan 2025: New measures to ensure price and stock stability

The City of Sciences announced that March 1, 2025, is expected to be the first day of the holy month of Ramadan in the year 1446 of the Hijri calendar in Tunisia. The lunar crescent marking the beginning of the holy month will be visible using a telescope and with the naked eye if visibility conditions are met.

According to astronomical calculations, the observation of the Ramadan crescent for the year 2025/1446, corresponding to the 29th of Sha’ban 1446, will take place on Friday, February 28, 2025. Sunset is expected at 6:14 PM, and moonset at 6:56 PM, 42 minutes after sunset.

In preparation for this occasion, the Director General of Competition at the Ministry of Trade, Houssem Eddine Touati, announced that related preparations are well underway.

During a press conference held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the Ministry of Trade headquarters, he emphasized continued coordination with all regional structures to ensure citizens can meet their consumption needs without pressure and at prices aligned with their purchasing power.

Touati revealed that new procedures have been approved for the first time in anticipation of Ramadan. Among the most significant measures is the establishment of a price ceiling for several products, including potatoes, chili peppers, and tomatoes, with a unified profit margin for vegetable sales set at 25% and a 15% profit margin in commercial spaces.

He added that 35 sales points will be set up in various markets across the country, including one at the Ellouhoum company.

25 million eggs to be marketed during Ramadan

Touati also announced that 25 million eggs will be made available before the start of Ramadan to meet demand during the holy month. Additionally, the distribution rate of coffee for household consumption will be increased by 50% during Ramadan. Between 120 and 150 tons of coffee will also be supplied to supermarkets starting next week.

Touati confirmed that coffee is already available in large quantities across all markets in the country. He assured that the Ministry of Trade is committed to ensuring a sustainable supply of various consumer products that experience supply fluctuations.

Over 200 inspection teams to monitor markets

The Ministry of Trade and Export Development has decided to deploy more than 200 inspection teams during Ramadan to address any violations of fair competition rules and deter offenders.

Periodic meetings have been organized with representatives from the Ministries of Trade and Interior to coordinate joint efforts for Ramadan 2025.

These inspection teams will cover most regions of the country, targeting areas with high commercial density.
