The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Boni Yayi, President of the Republic of Benin.
The Secretary-General expressed the United Nations’ readiness to support the organization of presidential elections in Benin. He thanked the President for his efforts towards resolving the crisis in Burkina Faso and expressed hope for continuing vigilance on the situation to ensure peaceful and credible elections. Regarding the sustainable development goals, he asked President Boni Yayi to take strong ownership by reflecting the global development discourses into national economic, social and environmental policies. As for the upcoming Paris Climate Change Conference, the Secretary-General said that Africa should speak in one strong voice to help forge a strong climate agreement in Paris.
