The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany informs:

The President of the German Bundestag, Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, and his wife are currently visiting Namibia. They arrived on 6th October and are bound to stay in Namibia until 9th October, 2015.

During his visit, Prof. Lammert had meetings with the Vice-President of the Republic of Namibia, Hon. Dr. Nickey Iyambo, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Prof. Peter Katjavivi, and the Leader of the Official Opposition, Hon. McHenry Venaani. He also met members of civil society and of the German-speaking community and had a meeting dedicated to the arts and culture.

On 6th October, 2015, Prof. Lammert was the guest of honour at the reception on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of German unification held at the residence of German Ambassador Christian Schlaga. On 7th October, Prof. Lammert participated in a panel discussion : “25 Years of Independence, Perspectives for the German-Namibian Partnership” organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

Prof. Lammert also visited the Independence Memorial Museum, the DHPS German school, the University Center for Studies in Namibia (TUCSIN) where he met beneficiaries and administrators of the Norbert Lammert Foundation, and attended the “Election Bridge” project of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. On 8th and 9th October, 2015, Prof. Lammert is bound to visit the Deseart Research Station at Gobabeb, the port of Walvis Bay and meet members of the Benguela Current Commission in Swakopmund.

At a press conference held on 8th October, 2015, Prof. Lammert said that he had come to Namibia to celebrate the 25th anniversary of German reunification and Namibia’s independence.
