Togo: Lomé airport gets ‘safe airport’ certificate

The Airport Company of Lomé-Tokoin, which manages the international airport of Lomé, the Togolese capital, has received a certificate that gives it the status of a “safe airport”, sources close to the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) told PANA on Saturday in Lomé.

The certificate presented to the company on Friday follows efforts by the authorities for high airport safety standards, Colonel Gnama Latta, Director of the Togolese Civil Aviation Agency, said, stressing that the Lomé airport was aiming at “zero accident”.

The certification is valid for three years. Sources close to the Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA) say that the Lomé airport is the first in the ASECNA zone to receive such a certification.

Lomé airport will at the end of the year inaugurate a new terminal of 21,000 square metres that meets the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards which will enable the airport to handle about 2 million passengers every year as against 400,000 at present.
