Tunisia: AFD pays out $ 14 million to supply drinking water to rural areas

The French Development Agency (AFD) has disbursed $ 14 million dinars to support the Drinking Water Supply (DWS) Program in rural areas of Tunisia, in the governorates of Sidi Bouzid, Siliana, Gabes, Medenine, Ariana and Bizerte.

This funding is part of France’s support to the transition in Tunisia through the AFD, its cooperation instrument, said a statement from the Embassy of France.

According the same source, this financing is part of the objectives of the country (Tunisia) to achieve a level of drinking water supply of rural populations of 97% nationally, with a minimum of 85% by governorate at the end of the current Plan (2009-2014).

The aim of the DWS program is to improve the lives of 87,690 people in rural areas.

It will allow the creation of 72 water supply systems intended to supply 136 rural centers in 19 governorates.
