Tunisia aims to produce 8.3 million tons of green hydrogen per year by 2050

The production of green hydrogen is one of the new priorities of the national energy transition strategy, as Tunisia has great potential to become an emerging market for green hydrogen and bring great benefits to the national economy, particularly due to the availability of renewable energy, its proximity to European markets and the availability of infrastructure.

This was stated by Director of Energy Transition, Abdelhamid Khalafallah, on the sidelines of a workshop on renewable energy and green hydrogen as part of the Tataouine project.

In a statement to Mosaïque FM, Khalafallah said that the legal framework for the production of green hydrogen is being developed following the publication a few months ago of the Renewable Energies Code, which will address the issue of hydrogen and develop the necessary legislation in this field.

There will also collaboration with the private sector and a number of investors by concluding a series of agreements and launching consultations on the mechanisms and legal frameworks needed to launch projects and the benefits that will result, whether for the local market, exports or carbon neutrality in 2050.

The Director of Energy Transition added that targets have been set for the hydrogen production axis, which aims to produce 8.3 million tons of hydrogen per year by 2050.
