Tunisia: Budget 2025 mentions construction of new airport in Greater Tunis

The government plans to launch several major projects aimed at significantly modernizing the transport sector, according to the state’s economic budget for 2025. These initiatives were approved by the Cabinet at its meeting on 26 February 2024.

A flagship project to build a new airport in the Greater Tunis region, the fruit of Tunisian-Chinese cooperation, is one of the projects mentioned in the government document.

Studies are due to begin in 2025, although details of the location and technical specifications have not been revealed.

The plan also includes a number of other important feasibility studies, including

 – Expansion of the existing Tunis-Carthage airport

– Creation of a rail link between Tunis-Carthage airport and the city centre

– A high-speed rail link between Tunis-Carthage and Enfidha-Hammamet airports.

– A metro line linking the TGM station to Bhar Lazreg via Les Berges du Lac.
