Tunisia could seek $ 2.5 billion credit line from IMF in 2014 (Minister)

The Tunisian government could be forced to ask the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to give it a stand-by credit line of $ 2.5 billion, said Minister of Foreign Investment and International Cooperation Riadh Bettaieb.

He said he does not rule out the idea because the government needs the money to meet its financing needs.

Tunisia’s public spending for the next year is already covered and the projected credit will be allocated to the year 2014.

“For next year, our public expenditure is covered essentially through credit lines totaling $ 1 billion provided by the World Bank and the African Development Bank,” said the Minister who noted that Tunisia needs $ 3 billion in 2013. “So we do not expect to seek additional international assistance from the IMF,” he added.
