Export earnings from Tunisian dates have risen by 33.5% from the start of the export season to October 23, 2024, compared with the same period last year, reaching 40.805 million dinars, according to figures released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries at a press conference on Tuesday.
The volume of exports also went up by 15.8% compared to the previous season, reaching 5,741.5 tons, with Tunisia exporting the fruit to 85 markets.
However, national date production is expected to fall by 10.7% this year to 347,000 tons, despite the improvement in exports in terms of both volume and value.
The ‘Deglet Nour’ variety is expected to contribute almost 293.3 thousand tons to national production, despite a 10.6% drop in production compared to 2024.
Date production in 2025 is distributed between the governorates of Kebili (250.3 thousand tons), Tozeur (62.3 thousand tons), Gabes (20 thousand tons) and Gafsa (15 thousand tons).
