Tunisia: expat remittances exceed 2.8 billion dinars at end of May

Remittances from Tunisians living abroad (TRE) have continued to grow over the first five months of the year.

Expat remittances posted a rise of 16% at the end of May, compared to the same period last year.

They stood at 2,864 million dinars, up 388 million dinars. These funds are almost three times higher than the tourism revenues generated by Tunisia during the first five months of the year (980 million dinars).

Expat remittances reached a record of 7.5 billion dinars in 2021, after increasing by 28% compared to 2020, which itself was considered an exceptional year that saw a 11% rise in a context of pandemic.
