“Huawei,” leading global information and telecommunications technology (ICT) solutions provider, is expanding its activity in Tunisia and will launch in 2012 new products dedicated to Tunisian consumers.
These products are equipped with the latest versions of the Android technology, Google’s operating system, and developed in partnership with Google. They include, for instance “Honor Vision” and the “Mediapad” tablet. “Since our establishment in Tunisia, we have been solely a supplier of network infrastructures for B-to-B operators. Now, we start to market our own brand in mobile telephony (B-to-C),” said Mr. Adnane Ben Halima, Deputy Director General in the Chinese company at a news conference held on Friday in Tunis.
Mr. Ben Halima said “the company will try to provide cutting-edge technologies at reasonable prices,” thus taking into account the current economic situation and its impact on the purchasing power of Tunisian consumers. It also seeks to contribute to the democratization of people’s access to smart phones.
He told TAP news agency that Tunisia is a country very conducive to investment, adding: “I have worked in Huawei for ten years and I have been in many African countries before returning to Tunisia which provides a climate propitious for foreign investment, especially in terms of local skills.” “Huawei Tunisia” employs 200 workers two thirds of whom are Tunisian.
