Tunisia: market capitalization to rise slightly by 3.3% in 2022

The market capitalization of the Tunis Stock Exchange recorded a slight increase of 3.3% in 2022, or 767 million dinars (MD), to 24,029 MD, despite the admission of two companies, according to the Balance Sheet of the stock exchange activity for the year 2022.

Financial companies still dominate the market capitalization with a share of 51.3%, followed by the Consumer Goods and Industry with 28.8% and 8.3%, respectively.

The ten largest market capitalizations of the List represented a share of 60.5% of the overall market capitalization for a total value of 14,545MD.

The share of the market capitalization held by foreigners, which remains essentially strategic, rose to 5,022MD representing 20.9% of the global capitalization of the market, against 5,374MD and a share of 23.1% in 2021, i.e. a fall of 2.2% corresponding to 351MD.

29.6% increase in volume of trades

During the year 2022, the global volume of trades on the Tunis Stock Exchange posted a rise of 29.6% to 3,350 MD, from 2,585 MD in 2021.

The volumes exchanged on the Stock Exchange List have monopolized 52.7% of the global volume of exchanges, 2% on the Off-List and 45.3% for registrations and declarations.

On the Stock Exchange List, the volume of exchanges increased in 2022 by 5.7% to reach 1 767 MD, against 1 672 MD in 2021, that is to say an average daily volume of 6.9 MD against 6.7 MD in 2021.

The exchanges of capital securities represented 88% of the volume of exchanges on the Stock Exchange for an amount of 1 558MD, against 1 554MD in 2021, that is to say a slight rise of 0.3%.

Block trades represented a share of 22% of the volume of trades on the capital securities and a share of 19% on the Stock Exchange List.

It is to be noted moreover that the global amount of issues carried out by the listed companies and authorized by the Financial Market Council (CMF) reached 857 MD for 19 operations, at the end of November 2022.

According to the Balance Sheet of the stock market activity for the year 2022, published by the Tunis Stock Exchange, this number is distributed between 12 bonds with a total amount of 762,5 MD, among which a bond issued according to the principles of the Islamic finance for an amount of 20 MD and 7 increases of capital for 94,5MD.

Regarding the National Bond Issue, the place has mobilized 2.975 billion dinars for the year 2022, which represents about 212% of the initial target (1.400 billion dinars).

Still according to the balance sheet of stock market activity, the balance sheet of the behavior of the financial market during the year 2022, is positive overall, marked by a healthy resistance, despite the repercussions of the COVID-19 and the War in Ukraine, the lack of political visibility and a still battered public finance.

At the end of the year 2022, stock market activity closed in the green zone. As such the flagship index of the Tunis Stock Exchange, Tunindex, recorded a remarkable increase of 15.10% against a return of 2.34% during 2021.
