Tunisia: Media management of olive oil season was a failure (UTAP)

Anouar Harrathi, a member of the national executive committee of the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (UTAP), told Mosaique FM on Friday, January 3 that the media management of the olive oil season by those in charge was a failure.

According to Harrathi, the publication of exaggerated figures for olive oil by the National Olive Oil Office has contributed to putting Tunisia in a weak position in relation to competing countries in this sector, such as Spain and Italy, pointing out that supply is greater than demand.

He also underlined that the other problem was foreign exchange earnings from olive oil exports, due to low selling prices and poor marketing.

He insisted that the task of the National Olive Oil Office should be to find a balance between local sales and exports abroad, with prices that guarantee adequate financial returns.
