he National Agency for Environmental Protection (ANPE) installed an advanced mobile station for measuring air pollutants on Friday, February 6, 2026, in Mdhilla delegation, Gafsa governorate.
This initiative aims to ensure precise monitoring of gas emissions from the Tunisian Chemical Group (Mdhilla 1) and the Gafsa Phosphate Company.
The project is part of ongoing efforts to protect air quality and reduce the environmental impact of industrial activities, particularly following recent cases of suffocation and repeated complaints regarding environmental degradation in the region.
The mobile station measures concentrations of several pollutants that have a direct impact on human health and the ecosystem, including sulfur dioxide (SO₂), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and particulate matter.
These readings will provide accurate and reliable data on air quality in the area.
According to informed sources quoted by Mosaïque FM, the collected data will allow for a rigorous scientific assessment of the environmental situation in Mdhilla and serve as a technical reference to support future decisions, particularly regarding emission reductions and improving environmental safety conditions in the region’s industrial units.
