Tunisia and Mauritania will start, next May 11, the first negotiations (May 11 and 12) on the situation of “Mauritania Airways,” an airline created in 2007, in partnership between Tunisia and Mauritania.
“Mauritania Airways,” mixed capital company held at 51% by Tunisair, at 39% by Bouamatou Group and at 10% by the Mauritanian Government, had stopped activities in December 2010.
Faced with financial problems, the company, which was unable to repay its debts, declared bankruptcy.
Tunisian Minister of Transport Abdelkarim Harouni and his Mauritanian counterpart Yahia Ould Hadamin, who met in Marrakesh, Morocco at the opening of the “Marrakesh Air Show” (April 4-7, 2012), expressed their willingness to examine the issue of “Mauritania Airways” and resolve relevant problems, while taking into account the interests of all sides,” a statement of the Transport Ministry said.
The two ministers said “the relations between the two countries can by no means be affected by these problems.”
