Tunisia seeks to attract 1 million Algerian tourists this year

Tunisian Minister of Tourism, Jamel Gamra invited all Algerian tourists to visit Tunisia, assuring them that they will be welcomed in the best conditions.

“Our target for this year, he said, is to welcome a million Algerian tourists,” he was quoted as saying by Algerian newspaper “Al Mujahid.”

He noted that if “the number of Algerian tourists recorded during the year 2012 reached 900,000 tourists, it will certainly increase this year, because we will provide the necessary means for that.”

As the number of Tunisian tourists who visited Algeria in 2012, the minister said “we recorded 540,000 tourists.” Regarding the contribution of the tourism sector in Tunisia, the Minister stated that it “is very significant contribution to the Tunisian economy, accounting for 7% of GDP.”

For his part, the Director General of the National Office of Tunisian Tourism said: “In order to reach the desired number of Algerian tourists during the summer, we have prepared a promotional campaign that will be launched later this month in Algeria. This campaign will target all forms of media, including television, newspapers, internet, and video displays on main roads.”
