Tunisia: Sharp fall in current account deficit at end-September (BCT)

The Executive Board of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) reported at its meeting on Wednesday a significant reduction in the current account deficit at the end of September.

It stood at TND 3,461 million, or 2.2% of GDP, compared with a deficit of TND 10,387 million, or 7.2% of GDP, a year earlier.

This improvement, explains the BCT, reflects the continued reduction in the trade deficit (FOB-FOB), which stood at TND 11.6 billion at the end of September 2023, compared with TND 17 billion, at the end of September 2022.

The current account balance also benefited from the good performance of tourism receipts and earned income.
