Tunisia: Tunisair loses 20% of passengers between September 2018 and 2019

National carrier Tunisair reported a 20% drop in the number of passengers using its fleet to 2 million 679 thousand passengers in September 2019, from 2 million 994 thousand passengers during the same period in 2018.

The carrier explained this decline, according to data published on the Tunis Stock Exchange (TSE) website, by the decrease in the number of passengers through regular and additional flights to 2 million 434 thousand at the end of September 2019.

Tunisair’s revenues in the first eight months of 2019 reached nearly 1,200 million dinars, up 12% in terms of passengers on regular and additional flights against 1,076 MD at the end of September 2019 and 1,059 MD at the end of September 2018.

The national carrier secured 30% of the flight market at the end of September 2019 compared to 35% in the same period in 2018.

Besides, the regularity rate of regular flights dropped from 42% at the end of September 2018 to 36% at the end of September 2019.

The Tunisair fleet counted 28 aircraft till September 2019, with a fall in the number of staffers from 3,807 to 3,721 at the end of September 2019 and a 2% rise in their charges.

Fuel consumption expenses edged down 6% at the end of September 2019 and the company’s debts decreased from 1,017 MD in September 2018 to 898 MD in September 2019.
