Tunisia: Tunisair reports deficit of 124.8 MTD at end of 2012

National airline Tunisair has recorded a deficit of 124.8 million Tunisian dinars (MTD) at the end of 2012 against a loss of about 157.9 dinars in 2011, Néjia Gharbi, Secretary General of Tunisair said on Radio Express FM. However, “This under-performance marks an improvement over the 2011 deficit,” she has said.

“This situation has been marked by increased operating expenses of the company, which rose from 1.06 billion dinars in late 2011 to 1.274 billion dinars in the same period in 2012,” she added.

She further indicated that the company has decided to take measures to improve the financial situation of the company. “As part of a social plan, Tunisair plans to reduce its workforce and lay off 2,000 employees, including 300 employees who will normally retire,” she added.

The Secretary announced that the Annual General Meeting of Tunisair is scheduled for 30 September at the seat of the Arab Institute of Business Managers (IACE).
