Tunisia: volume of currency circulation exceeds 13 billion dinars

Currency circulation continued to increase until the holiday of Eid El Idha to 13 billion dinars on August 20, 2018, the highest level recorded so far.

During the month of June, the banknotes and coins in circulation crossed the threshold of 12 billion dinars, a period that covers the summer season, the month of Ramadan and Eid el Fitr.

Currency circulation is increasing faster than nominal GDP, reflecting a change in the behavior of economic agents vis-à-vis the trust and reflecting a clear preference for the use of cash (this is all the more confirmed by the evolution compared since 2011 of the average annual growth rates of currency circulation at the end of the period or in terms of annual average and current GDP).
