Today the United States government inaugurated its first USAID Power Tunisia grants program, titled “Improving Access to Finance for Small-Scale Clean Energy Investments in Tunisia”. This program will be implemented in Tunisia by our two grantees Amen Bank and Advans Tunisie. Over a period of 17 months, this program aims to support more than 500 companies to undertake clean energy projects, thus generating investments of more than 3.4 million dollars (or 10.57 million Tunisian dinars)..
Through this grants program our grantees Amen Bank and Advans Tunisie will work towards issuing loans for small-scale investments not exceeding $50,000 each. These will be used by firms for procuring and installing renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. These investments are designed to reduce CO2 emissions and lower energy costs for borrowers, with a focus on extending benefits to more remote regions of Tunisia. Additionally, grantees will conduct awareness-raising campaigns on climate change, including emphasizing the advantages that come from investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
U.S. Ambassador Joey Hood said at the ceremony that, “This initiative marks a significant milestone in our partnership with Tunisia to advance its national clean energy strategy. By improving access to finance for small and medium-sized enterprises engaged in clean energy projects, we are fostering economic growth and environmental sustainability. This program highlights the United States’ commitment to sustainable development and supports Tunisia’s leadership in clean energy innovation.”
M. Neji Ghandri, Chairman of the Board of Amen Bank, emphasized, ” As part of this grant, our partnership with USAID Power Tunisia reinforces our commitment to facilitate access to financing for small and medium-sized businesses involved in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, thereby contributing to a greener economy.
Amen Bank will offer adapted financial products, advantageous conditions and personalized support for each project supported by POWER TUNISIA. We are committed to facilitating access to the necessary financing and maximizing the chances of success of the initiatives carried out by this program.”
Ms. Meriem Zine, General Director of Advans Tunisie, said, “Developing solutions to promote clean energy is part of our global climate strategy at Advans Tunisie. This new partnership with USAID Power Tunisia will enable us to develop tailored and accessible financial services for our small, and medium-sized enterprises and farmer clients to invest in renewable and efficient energy equipment. We will do everything we can to support our clients in their energy transition to increase their resilience in the long term.”
