Over the last two decades, Mozambique has been a success story of transition from war to peace. The two recent attacks which have targeted Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama, are detrimental to the country’s stability, democratic progress and economic development.
The European Union expresses its condolences to the families of the victims. A swift and thorough investigation should shed light on the circumstances of both incidents; their perpetrators have to be brought to justice. The European Union joins all those who call for calm and constructive dialogue.
All efforts to re-establish trust, relaunch the dialogue and find solutions for reconciliation and lasting peace should be ensured.
The EU will continue to support Mozambique to achieve this goal.
