Tunisia: calls for tenders this week to purchase 1,200 buses

Tenders should be launched this week for the purchase of 1,200 buses with Tunisian companies specialized in assembling buses, said Transport Minister Mahmoud Ben Romdhane, in a statement to “Attounsia” site.

He added that three Tunisian companies operating in the sector will participate in this tender, noting that the first deliveries will begin with the 2016-2017 school year.

Furthermore, he recalled that the age of the passenger transport fleet has dictated urgent action in the form of the purchase of 300 used buses from a French public company, following a mission carried out by a commission including technical experts from public transport companies.

The minister said, in this regard, that if we had relied entirely on domestic manufacturers, we would have waited a year and a half to receive the first deliveries, while the situation of the fleet no longer affords it.
