Tunisia: launch of 1st phase of 4G license award process

The Ministry of Communication Technology and Digital Economy, on Monday, launched the first phase of the 4G license award process by opening bids related to the relevant administrative and technical tenders.

A committee will check the compliance of technical offers with the conditions of specifications from February 2 to 29, 2016.

The ministry will open financial bids on February 29, 2016 and should decide on the provisional award of licenses before the signing of final agreements.

The three operators: Tunisie Telecom, Ooredoo and Orange Tunisia have, each, bid to the tender.

Minister of Communication Technology and Digital Economy Noomen Fehri said the cost of 4G license award is estimated at 155 million dinars, recalling that the tender launched in
November 2015 provides for upholding positive discrimination for disadvantaged regions as far as this network is concerned.

The effective start of the 4G network will take place before next Ramadan (June 2016), he said, adding that the state is committed to the success of its national plan in the
ICT sector “Tunisia Digital,” to narrow the digital divide between main cities and interior regions.
