Tunisia’s share of renewable energy has now reached 10 per cent, Aymen Souei, engineer and chairman of the Tunisian Energy Management Agency (ANME), has confirmed.
In a statement to the national radio station, he explained that the national energy management strategy aims to increase this figure to 35 per cent by 2030.
He also explained that the State has set an objective to reduce primary energy consumption by 30% through energy efficiency.
“We are currently working on a number of major projects that will inevitably enable us to achieve these strategic objectives,” he said.
He added that the transport sector is the most energy-intensive, accounting for 32.1% of total energy consumption, followed by construction at 28.1%. In comparison, agriculture and fishing account for just 6.4%.
