Tunisia: CNAM owes 200 million dinars to private pharmacies! (Guiga)

Zoubeïr Guiga, President of the Union of Private Pharmacies told MosaiqueFM Thursday, May 29, that on the eve of the Union’s General Assembly (May 24, 2025), the National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM) owed private pharmacies nearly 200 million dinars, equivalent to 173 days of payment delays.

He added that this situation has placed many pharmacies in a dire financial position, with some struggling to pay social security contributions.

On another note, Zoubeïr Guiga mentioned that the General Assembly provided an opportunity to assess the sector’s technical and financial challenges over the past year, with 600 out of Tunisia’s 2,500 private pharmacy owners in attendance.

He emphasized that participants called for modernization of the local pharmaceutical industry to boost production and prevent shortages.

“Currently, supply chains have stabilized to their usual pace (…). While some medications remain in short supply, the situation is not alarming,” he assured.
