Tunisia fully equipped to serve as a gateway to African continent

Tunisia has all the necessary assets to become an economic gateway to the African continent, said Anis Jaziri, President of the Tunisia–Africa Business Council.

He nevertheless stressed that several structural problems continue to hinder the achievement of this objective, notably the weakness of the logistics system and the need to reform the foreign exchange code.

Speaking on Express FM, he emphasized that Tunisian companies benefit from internationally recognized expertise and skills, as evidenced by their growing presence in African markets. Currently, more than 160 Tunisian companies are established in Côte d’Ivoire.

They also regularly participate in economic and trade fairs in several African countries to promote Tunisian products, particularly in the sectors of traditional crafts and services.

The President of the Tunisia–Africa Business Council explained that it is impossible to attract major investments on the African continent without regular and efficient air and maritime connections.

He stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of major strategic projects such as the Enfidha deep-water port, the development of Enfidha airport, and the Trans-Saharan highway linking Tunisia, Libya, and Niger, given the crucial role these projects play in connecting Tunisia to its African hinterland and transforming it into a regional hub for trade and investment.

Finally, Anis Jaziri insisted that reforming the Foreign Exchange Code is a prerequisite for encouraging Tunisian investors to establish themselves in Africa, as well as for attracting foreign investors wishing to use Tunisia as a transit platform to the African continent.
