Tunisian startup Bako Motors has announced that it has obtained ECE (Economic Commission for Europe) certification and type approval, becoming the first Tunisian electric vehicle manufacturer to receive this international recognition.
According to the company, the certification confirms that its vehicles comply with the highest international standards for safety, quality and performance.
Issued in accordance with regulations of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), ECE approval certifies that a vehicle meets harmonized technical requirements for safety and performance.
Recognized by countries that are party to the UNECE’s 1958 Agreement, the certification is a major asset for vehicle exports and facilitates access to numerous international markets, particularly in Europe.
Founded by Tunisian engineer Boubaker Siala, Bako Motors specializes in the design and manufacture of light electric vehicles.
The startup gained attention in 2021 with the launch of its first solar-powered electric vehicle, developed entirely by Tunisian expertise.
The company currently has an annual production capacity of around 300 vehicles and aims to contribute to the development of sustainable and affordable mobility in Tunisia and abroad.
