Agility, a leading supply chain service provider and investor in relevant innovations, has released its Emerging Markets Logistics Index report for 2022, where Tunisia ranked 36th among 50 emerging and leading markets worldwide.
This means that Tunisia has dropped 5 ranks compared to the previous year, after achieving a total score of 4.53 to remain among the least competitive markets at the emerging market level.
According to the index, Tunisia made no progress in the area of “local logistics opportunities” to remain in 35th place, while it was able to make a two-point advance in international logistics opportunities, and a four-point advance in the area of “business fundamentals”, but Tunisia still lags in the area of digital readiness where it ranks 41.
This year, the index has included, for the first time, countries’ digital readiness, preparation of digital countries, which is a factor that enhances the attractiveness of these markets for logistics service providers, agents, shipping companies, airlines, distributors and investors. The survey for this year’s index included 756 supply chain professionals.
In fact, Digital Readiness assesses digital skills, training, internet access, e-commerce growth, investment climate and ability to incubate start-ups, as well as sustainability factors such as the promotion and adoption of various renewable energy sources, green initiatives and efforts to reduce emissions.
Morocco and Egypt are doing much better!
In terms of the most important areas, digital readiness was one of the most relevant factors in the survey, where logistics executives stated that the adoption of new technologies is the main driver of economic and business growth for emerging markets, knowing that technology and sustainability were the most important areas that companies are focusing on.
The Agility Logistics Emerging Markets Index for 2022 also showed Morocco (20th) and Egypt (21st) doing better than Tunisia in this area.
The index, published this year in its thirteenth annual edition, ranks the world’s top 50 emerging markets in terms of competitiveness based on their logistical strengths and business climate.
The list of the top ten most competitive emerging market countries includes China, India, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Thailand, Mexico and Turkey.
The logistics industry leaders believe that exorbitant freight prices and port disruptions will continue until 2022, but they expressed optimism about the global economy.
They also presented their views on strategic priorities, investment, sustainability, technology and digital freight in the 2022 Emerging Markets Logistics Agility Index, which ranks the world’s top 50 emerging markets based on logistics infrastructure, business environment and digital readiness.
