Algeria: Air Algeria to open new air routes in Africa

Algeria’s national carrier Air Algeria is to open new air routes in Africa, particularly with the south of the continent, according to Algeria’s Transport Minister Amar Ghoul.

Speaking at the 46th General Assembly of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), Ghoul said Air Algeria would benefit from the African economic growth by opening the new air links.

He announced that his country is building four regional air control towers that will serve the African routes.

”Algeria hopes to raise its capacity of air transport to 20 million passengers yearly from the present 6 million through the renovation of several of its airports and the acquisition of new airplanes,” he said.

For his part, the Vice-President of the International Air Transport Organisation for Africa and the Middle-East Husein Dabas deplored the poor air links among African countries.
