Investment opportunities of U.S. Bechtel Company in Tunisia, particularly in the infrastructure sector, were the focus of the meeting held Tuesday in Tunis by Secretary of State for American and Asian affairs, Hedi Ben Abbes and President of the Bechtel Company for Europe, Africa and the Middle East, David Welch.

While noting the interest taken by Tunisia in foreign investment and the role of foreign private companies, the Secretary of State stressed said the infrastructure sector holds a prominent position among development projects that will be presented, shortly, by the government, says a press release from the ministry.

In this regard, he stressed the commitment of Tunisia to ensure full transparency in awarding relevant contracts and to improve the business climate, thanks to new investment incentives.

Referring to the comparative advantages of Tunisia’s investment, Mr. Welch said Bechtel mulls positioning on the Tunisian market and expressed confidence about the future prospects of the country.

Bechtel Group is the first U.S. public works company. Founded in 1898 and headquartered in San Francisco, it employed in 2006, 40,000 people in nearly fifty countries.
