Tunisia: consumer price index up 5.7% (February 2012)

The consumer price index posted a 5.7% increase in February 2012, compared with the same month of 2011, according to latest statistics released Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

This increase is due to the rise in prices of most of products, mainly food (+8.3%), clothing and footwear (+6.9%), catering and hospitality (+7%), and housing and domestic energy (+4%).

Compared to January 2012, the index rose only 0.1% in February, according to the INS, as a result of the increase in prices of food and beverages (1.4% ), meat (+4.8%), vegetables (+2.1%), spices (1.8%) and eggs (+0.7%).

However, the clothing and footwear group index fell by 4.8% because of the winter sales.
