Belgium: European agricultural trade union against South Africa citrus

The most powerful European agricultural trade union, COPA-COGECA, has called on the European Union to immediately ban citrus fruits from South Africa to the European market because of the black spot disease that affects particularly lemons.

In a statement issued to the press on Friday in Brussels, the European agricultural trade union is calling on the European Union to take additional measures for the control of the disease.

The EU permanent committee on plant health, which is due to meet on Tuesday and Wednesday in Brussels, will take measures in a bid to avoid the propagation of the black spot disease in Europe.
