Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has approved AED2bn ($544m) worth of new projects by the Ministry of Works and reviewed progress on a further AED2bn worth of ongoing project, according to a report by the WAM news agency.
While on a visit to the ministry’s headquarters on Sunday, Sheikh Mohammed approved the department’s new 2014 – 2016 plan, with a package of new infrastructure projects set to cost around AED2bn.
One of the projects launched was the first phase of the construction of Al Amal Hospital in the Al Ruwayyah of Dubai, which will cost in the region of AED600m.
Sheikh Mohammed unveiled the plaque of the foundation stone for the hospital, which extends over an area of 54,000 square metres. It will have a capacity of 272 beds and will take 24 months to complete.
Other projects include the improvement of road links between all cities and regions of the UAE.
“Our ambitions are great, especially with the passage of 41 years of life of our state. Now you are taking up your march to bring our state to the first ranks of developed nations in the field of public services,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
During the visit, Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Public Works, and Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, Director-General of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality in Dubai, along with a number of senior officials of the Ministry.
