Recipients of the 2015 SEED Award
As the world gears up to adopt the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) this month, SEED is honouring those trailblazing eco-entrepreneurs who bring social and environmental benefits with their innovative business models.
Launched in 2005 by UNEP, UNDP and IUCN, SEED Awards recognize inspiring social and environmental entrepreneurs whose grassroots businesses in developing countries help to meet sustainable development challenges.
This year’s winners include an innovative company manufacturing plates from fallen leaves, an initiative engaging impoverished women in producing fuel-efficient stoves for refugee camps, and a construction business that uses non-flammable bricks made of plastic waste.
SEED this year will make available up to:
• 23 Africa Awards to enterprises in Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania and Uganda;
• 6 South Africa Awards to enterprises in South Africa, with up to three of them to enterprises in the provinces of Free State, Limpopo or KwaZulu-Natal;
• 2 Gender Equality Awards to enterprises in countries that are not OECD or EU Member countries; one of them to an enterprise in Kenya.
