International drug trafficking network dismantled in port of Radés

An international drug trafficking network was dismantled and 1,050 cannabis resin bundles were seized along with nearly 35,000 tablets of illicit drugs in the port of Radés, said the Interior Ministry on Sunday.

Four people were arrested by the anti-drug-trafficking sub-division coming under El Gojani judicial police and a search warrant was issued for a European national, further reads a press release. The network intends to get signaificant quanitities of drugs in the country.

Network members were identified in coordination with the office of the public prosecutor at Ben Arous Court of First Instance which ordered a series of searches in the governorates of Bizerte and Tunis.

These searches took place following reports according to which an international network of drug trafficking would seek to get an important quantity of drugs in Tunisia on board a container trailer in the port of Radès.

The public prosecutor at the First Instance of Court of Ben Arous ordered the trailer to be serached. Four large suitcases containing 1,050 bundles of cannabis with a total weight of nearly 105 kg were seized in addition to 35,000 tablets of illicit drugs and a GPS receiver used to track drugs. Two lorries were also seized.
