Investment in Nigeria’s telecoms sector hits US$25b – Pres. Jonathan

Investment in the Nigerian telecommunications sector in the past 12 years has hit US$25 billion, the country’s Ministry of Communications Technology quoted President Goodluck Jonathan at saying at the Nigerian Investment Forum in Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday.

The President said Africa presented new opportunities for the world and that Nigeria was at the crest of whatever Africa had to offer.

He said telecommunication was the fastest growing sector of the Nigerian economy, and that it had been performing twice as much as the next sector, which is building and construction.

The telecoms sector, according to the President, is growing at 30 per cent per annum, contributing eight per cent to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product.

President Jonathan was represented at the forum by Minister of Communications Technology Omobola Johnson.
