Mauritanian govt. plans adequate electricity for its population

The Mauritanian government plans to refurbish and upgrade its electricity generating facilities to ensure that the population and firms have adequate access to power across the country.

This indication was given here Thursday by the Mauritanian Minister of Oil, Energy and Mining, Taleb Ould Abdi Vall, while addressing the media.

He said the measure was to ensure that the Mauritanian electricity company (SOMALEC) delivers adequate power to its subscribers, adding that tariffs would reduced and new power stations built under the new plan.

The minister disclosed that over the last few years, several towns between Boghe and Rosso had been provided with electricity.

He added that the project would soon be extended to more towns including Nema and Easter.
