Speed boats on Monday arrested an oil tanker which attempted to illegally enter Libyan territorial waters, the office of the Libyan army chief of staff has announced.
The tanker, ”Wayil”, was arrested near the eastern oil terminal of Sadra during normal patrols to “prevent oil tankers from entering Libyan ports without previous authorization from the government”.
The Prime minister of the Libyan transition government, Ali Zidane, at a recent press conference warned that any ship that got close to the oil fields without contract with the national oil company will be impounded.
The warning followed attempts of by some people to illegally sell oil from Libyan oil fields.
