Qatar cinema firm eyes major leisure, homes project

 Qatar Cinema and Film Distribution Company plans to build a a “grand recreational and residential project” in Doha.Qatar Cinema and Film Distribution Company (QCFDC) has announced plans to launch a “grand recreational and residential project” in Doha.

QCDFC general manger Abdulrahman Mohsen al-Mokadem said feasibility studies are currently under study, ahead of seeking the approval of the relevant authorities.

“The establishment of such projects requires the approval of the Ministry of Business and Trade and the Doha Municipality,” he said in comments published in Gulf Times on Sunday, without giving further details about the project.

He also revealed said there had been an increase of 30,689 visitors to cinemas in Qatar in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year.

“The global recession and the fears of the swine flu have had no impact here,” he told the paper.

Al-Mokadem said that negotiations were underway with several shopping centres in Doha to host cinema halls operated by the company.

“The signing of a contract with a mall in this regard is expected soon,” he added.
