The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) convenes its 50th Public Meeting in London from 22 – 26 June, the body revealed in a statement received here by PANA.
According to the statement, the meeting will give opportunity to the ”global community to continue the critical discussion on the future of the Internet.”
So far, some 2,200 would-be participants are said to have registered for the event, ”making this one of the largest public meetings ICANN has ever convened; and an indicator of the importance of the topic at hand.”
The meeting will bring together international stakeholders from government, business, civil society, technical organizations and research institutions to discuss a wide variety of issues.
Among the agenda for discussion are the transition of the stewardship of some key internet technical functions from the U.S. government to a global multi-stakeholder body.
Similarly, ICANN’s accountability and globalization strategies along with the body’s role in the global internet ecosystem will be discussed.
To officially kick-off ICANN50, Board Chair, Dr. Stephen Crocker, and President and CEO, Fadi Chehadé, will address participants during a welcome session.
