Shortage of gas, fuel hits Libreville

Following the growing demand for oil products in Gabon, the current production capacity of 6,000 cubic metres will meet demands for only three days instead of the previous six days, the managing director of the Gabonese refinery company (SOGARA), Pierre Reteno Ndiaye, told a news conference here Wednesday.

He said shortage of the products had been noticed particularly in the Gabonese capital, Libreville.

“We noted a net growth in the oil products market. Unfortunately, we have only one tank to supply the Gabonese capital from Port-Gentil,” Ndiaye said, adding that the problem arose from the inadequate transportation of the products to Libreville.

While waiting for the supply of another tank, consumers should face six to eight days of delay in fuel supply, said Ndiaye.
